MisDeeds // Deeds
Didi Ramlan aka MisDeeds likes to describe herself jack of all trades and “hopefully” a master of at least a few things. Currently, she’s in the business of “being awesome”, which some would say that’s a pretty vague job description. For the record, her business card reads ‘Talent Manager/ Photographer/ Connector’.
She is graduate of The University of Adelaide with a double degree in commerce specializing in marketing as well as media.
Didi began her career in music journalism working with titles such as Junk Magazine and Klue Magazine under publishing house, FreeForm Sdn.Bhd. During her 4-year stint with FreeForm, Didi explored all facets of media from writing to photography to videography. Not one to shy away from learning new things – she took up the challenge of traversing the social media landscape that was developing. With a team of only two people (herself included) – Didi created, built and maintained the social networks for all Freeform titles. Some would credit the savvy social media duo for being one of the first few Malaysian brands to successfully embrace and fully utilize social media tools such as Youtube, Twitter and Facebook Pages.
As if social media management wasn’t enough she decided to widen her scope of expertise to events management. With her background as artiste liaison and stage manager for music events like Recharge Revelation 5 Global Gathering and Sunburst Festival amongst others – the transition was natural. Since then she’s worked on shows with Saosin, Coheed & Cambria and VW’s ‘ARE YOU VOLKSWAGEN ENOUGH? party that featured UK’s X-Factor winner Leona Lewis and Australia’s pop-rockers The Veronicas as headliners.
At present, Didi works freelance in events (see list of event experience here) and talent management with notable Malaysian music outfits like One Buck Short, Arabyrd, Narmi and The Impatient Sisters. She also partnered up with her long-time collaborator Sarah Chan to form their company, The Meks. Collectively, their resumé includes both on-ground event management and social media management for Urbanscapes Festival (2008 – 2010, 2012 – 2013), Festival Belia Putrajaya 2014, Twin Towers Alive 2014, Sapura & Kencana Petroleum Red Ribbon F1 Charity Gala; working with a diverse list of artistes that range from Franz Ferdinand, Tegan & Sara, Sigur Rós, Foals, Kings of Convenience, Christina Aguilera, Josh Hartnett, Teri Hatcher, Leona Lewis to name but a few. Past clients include global brands like Levi’s and L’Oréal, to homegrown names like 8TV and F&B establishment, The Bee.
On the content curation side, she works closely with The Wknd – an online portal that features local and regional music news and content, which is known mostly for The Wknd Sessions.
It’s pretty evident by now that Didi thrives on anything to do with music, images and pop culture. When she’s not busy with work, you’ll find her traveling, experiencing new things and attending foreign music festivals – all the while documenting her journey which she regularly posts about on her Tumblr and Instagram.
